Prequel:

Oh well, what better thingd to do on a free Sunday than playing a little tournament. I had no expectations of this tournament than to have a nice day playing some fine opponents.

The tables:

Just as on the tournament of Conect'r the tables were forseen of some scenery without really giving either site of the table great advantages. Thinking of Conect'r I was hoping to do better this time...

The draw of battles:

The first draw first gave me the reserve player with Empire but luckily (the result prooved otherwise) someone showed up late...

Round 1:

Opponent: Jasper
Army: Dark Elves
About the opponent: I immediately noticed Jasper was a smooth talking guy who really loves the game. We came along very well and I hope to get the best of him next time.
About the battle: The battle started fast with casualties falling at either side. I was unlucky in my panic tests as I saw my knights run of the table after two failed tests. The High Sorceres on Dark Pegasus wrecked havoc in my ranks with powerfull spells once the flank where my knights started was free. Soul Stealer and Black Horror were too much for my low strength and low toughness troops... A Massacre was my doom...

Most valuable unit(s):

  • My Captain on pegasus at least was able to kill a unit of dark riders and a bolt thrower and due to my own mistake forgot to destroy a unit op crossbowmen in the last round.

Round 2:

Opponent: Jurgen (De Witte Ridder)
Army: Chaos (Khorne)
About the opponent: I had seen Jurgen on previous tournaments as part of the 'De Witte Ridder' delegation but had never seen him play. From what I gathered he was one of those 'bad dice'-type of guys, say the Larry Leadhead of De Witte Ridder. He was a nice guy to play against... Come to think of it: I've not yet met an annoying player of this club...
About the battle: My luck with Khorne is that I don't have any luck while I play against them. I succeeded in getting one of his units knights running but didn't manage to retrieve them. Result: they turned and the Exalted Champion in the unit annihilated my Reiksguard... As always I was buzzerd meat when the mass of his units came in close combat... I suffered my second massacre in a row...
Most valuable unit(s):
  • A unit free companies held of a daemon prince for two rounds of close combat...

Round 3:

Opponent: Robby
Army: Dark Elves
About the opponent: An advantage of loosing with two massacres you don't have the strongest opponents to get up against. Robby was a fine opponent that tried to get the best out of the day and his army... just like I was.
About the battle: I had deployed in two sides. A fast moving right flank and a massive left flank that was to keep it's ground under cover of major fire power. Well the knights needed all six rounds to get rid of one chariot. The captain on pegasus was able to destroy a unit of crossbows and a reaping bolt thrower but that was it for the fast flank... The left flank (except the artillery which misfired a lot) dealt with the rest of the Dark Elves Host (including a war hydra) except for a noble and a Highborn. Killing most of the units but none of the heroes resulted in a minor victory...
Most valuable unit(s):
  • My infantery and handgunners for making enough casualties to win me the game.
  • No more tactical advice but just Keep having fun like your doing now...

Aftermath:

10th place on 12 gamers. Not a great result but hey we had fun. In the end that's what is all about. To my opponents: until a next tournament...
