By The Chosen of Sigmar
...of the Knights of Bayard 2006
Prequel:
I
only decided to enter the local championship the very last
day. People that know me well, will tell you that I normally don't play when I
have my kids with me in the weekend (as a result of my divorce in 2002 I have my
kids every two weekends). Hilde, the shop keeper, however had convinced me that
my kids would have the necessary room to entertain themselves while I would be
battling it out with the other club members. So I entered an unpainted High
Elves list just to see how they would do in a tournament. As only 10 points were
awarded for painting I didn't have such a big setback...
The tables:
The
scenery on the tables was scattered but certainly a tactical advantage for my
kind of army. I hoped to play at least one game on the table with the river but
that all remained to be seen...
The draw of battles:
Strangely
enough only six members had shown up. The defending champion had wounded himself
playing badminton (???) and didn't play either and some players I had figured to
meet hadn't shown up at all. Oh well, the dice would decide who would be best
and I had to open against... High Elves!
Small Note for Bram: I don't know how
you do it but in the four years I do kickboxing I never had an injury that kept
me from playing Warhammer, yet you seem to be able to do that with Badminton...
Tsssss ;-)
Round 1:
|
Opponent:
Laurent.
Army:
High Elves.
About
the opponent: Young lad that really tries hard to get in there with his High
Elves. The lack of experience he more than compensates with his enthousiasm.
However Laurens, try to focus on the strong points of your army which are
speed, shooting and (anti-)magic …
About
the battle: We had to play on the river-table and I got the side away from
the river
with two hills in my deployment zone. As he had a moving army the river
would give me an early advantage as it was considered very difficult terrain
which made it only to be crossed in two turns with the exception of the two
bridges. Needless to say that my magic (all mages had chosen High magic and
had arrow attraction) and shooting made none of his troops arrive completely.
In fact: the times he could charge he had only one model left to arrive at
his target. Result: a serious massacre with more than 2000 points
difference...
Most
valuable unit(s):
- The complete army with the help of the river...

Round 2:
Opponent:
Tom.
Army: Dark Elves.
About
the opponent: For me, this was one of the opponents that could bring the
championship home. A tactical mastermind I figured he would have some way to
get the upperhand of me...
About
the battle: I faced several units of infantry (no worries there), two
chariots, two units of (shooting) dark riders, some harpies and 2 reaper
bolt throwers. The later I finished off in my first round. They were the
only thing that could wreck havoc in my lines at an early stage. After some
rounds of magic and shooting the only thing that remained of his spear
warriors and his corsairs were his two standard bearers which didn't seem to
wanna die. On the contrary: the standard bearer carried around a captured
banner and in the final round was able to send a mage of mine fleeing. The
corsair standard bearer finish the crew of my two bolt throwers due to
combat result and dodging the counter attacks (I always hitted, but never
wounded and this 3 or four times). The result was a draw in his favor by 85
points. The objective of the capture was unaccounted for because both his
noble in chariot and my silver helms were even close in its area.
Most
valuable unit(s):
- My shooting in rounds one and two.
- My mages: having twice the flames of the phoenix,
twice the Fury of Khaine and the Ring of Fury is a little too much for a
level 1 sorceress to resist...

Round 3:
|
Opponent:
Thomas.
Army:
Beastmen.
About
the opponent: Thomas was the other person I had expected of this tournament
to take home the final victory. He had already won the Championship of
Dendermonde earlier this year and he was first in the ranking if you take in
account the first two battles and the painting scores. I was only ten points
behind him (only three points if you only count the game points)
About
the battle:
We were playing again on the 'river'-table but we had dediced too turn it so
that nobody could really hide behind it.
I chose Lore of Metal for my seer
wizard as on the other side of the table a unit of Chosen Knights would
enter the fray. An irresistable Bane of Forged Steel later the champion of
this unit was feeling very lonely. At my left side things didn't exactmy go
as planned as the minotaurs butchered of a unit of silver helms and a
tuskgor chariot in combination with a ambushing beast herd finished of some
archers. My mages this time weren't enclosed in units but were free too cast
lots of magic which didn't always go how I wanted but at least magic got rid
of a bray shaman, a beast herd as it appeared and in a later stage the
minotaurs. A unit silver helms was sacrificied to get a unit of pestigors of
the table at the end of round 4 but as it came on the table in round 5 it
was the only remaining target of 3 mages with nasty spells and 10 archers
and a bolt thrower. In round 3 and 4 the swordmasters got rid of a unit
beast herd and and the tuskgor chariot.
Most
valuable unit(s):
- The whole army worked together to get a nice
massacre as a result!
|
Aftermath:
Finally,
I got a price on a tournament. I came in first and scored 76 points out of a
100. OK, it was not the most populated championship you could imagine znd my
list was rather cheesy I admit but I did it. And I hope my adversaries can say I
wasn't annoying to play against. I had chosen for shooting and magic to get rid
of my opponents. A choice as good as another but the dice were with me today...
Yes!
