Mission Impossible...

OK, a little history. A couple of weeks ago our Money Wolf eldest, Curtio, injured himself while playing... badminton. I don't know if people can imagine it but Badminton is one of the most harmful sports to play for a Warhammer player. In the past half year I have known two players that have been injured on a badminton court. And that are only those I know personally. Who knows how many are out there?

Anyway. As he had left the hospital weighing two pounds more than before (a plaster cast on your leg weighs) I visited him at home. We had a few laughs and the remarks saying that now he would have plenty of time to paint were well understood ;-). As his wife (Ireen) joined me to the door when I left, she asked in a silent voice whether I could gather the other Money Wolves in the next couple of weeks to come and play over. Only one thing: Curtio was not to know before the day itself.

So I checked with Iano and Stefano and we could target a date: April 1st. April Fools Day. What better day to trick a best mate into a combat. To be able to contact us, Ireen had looked up our phone numbers in Curtio's mobile. A number of SMS messages were sent from all sides but Curtio's and all went smoothly. Stefano had the difficult task to create two army lists: one of Dwarfs and one of Bretonnia, Curtio's two good side armies. He was the ally of Curtio and as our buddy was not to be told and we didn't want to waste any time on the day itself he would have to improvise a little. One little thing: which models did Curtio have? In sometimes calling about his paint progresses (he had the time) we gathered some information. For example: I knew he was painting Questing Knights but we had to know how many pegasus knights he had. So I called how he was going on painting his pegasus knights. With this excuse I found out he had 6 pegasus knights of which 3 were painted.  In the end Ireen had warned several people including the young twins but no one had told Curtio. Hey, Mission Impossible: the Money Wolves way!

So on April Fools at 9:10 Am I rang the doorbell at Casa Curtio. I had an excuse because I had still to gather a small present for my Birthday. We sat at the table and talked a little while having a cup of coffee. He was already excited about leaving the day after for a small holiday with his family. Around 9:20 Am the bell rang. Iano entered with the excuse of having seen my car (Iano's parents are the neighbors of Curtio) and so had decided to bring a visit. We sat down again and Curtio spoke the magic words that in fact the only one that was missing was in fact Stefano. Little did he know! Around 9:30 Am the bell rang again. Curtio, completely confused about the busy morning, went towards the door loudly wondering that it couldn't be Stefano at the door. The look upon his face when indeed Stefano, his spouse and son, stood at the door. 'I was just saying...! No, this cannot?' So we asked if he didn't have 4 armies so we could play. Since we were here already... Or do we have to take the ones in our cars. Laughter aloud... But I still had something upon my sleeve. 'OK, on which gaming table are we going to play?' Three Eh's escaped my fellows mouths as I looked them in the eyes. 'OK, I'll take mine...' The relieves upon their faces made it all worth while...

Then the battle...

I don't quiet remember the whole battle but our (Iano and me) rather offensive army was facing an strong Dwarf Gun Line reinforced by some strong Bretonni Lance Formations and Pegasi. You can see the lists at the left...

Curtion and Stefano quiet confident in themselves

Iano and Kaïo who knew better

Some highlights:

  • A paladin on Pegasus thought himself save of a Steam Tank behind a wall. Yeah right...
  • It took the Bretonnian General 4 rounds of Combat before rolling a six to wound the Steam Tank and thus destroying it (Virtue of Heroism).
  • 3 Rhinox riders didn't do any wounds on the Pegasi Knights that had charged them...
  • A palladin that failed two toughness tests versus a hammer of Judgement.

And many, many more...
