...of the Green Knights 2006-2007
Prequel:
When
I enlisted myself with the Green Knights at the end of 2006 I was immediately
asked to participate in the Club Championship of 2006-2007. Normally one starts
in the second group and needs to work oneself up to the Major League on a years
basis. As an exception and because a redraw of another player and because I am a
Ranking player, I could start immediately in the Major League if I wanted to. Of
course I accepted.
The draw of battles:
The
club championship doesn't work with the Swiss-system but is in fact a league
where all players have to face each other. However: for all battles the same
list must be used. As in my league there were already 2 Empire players and no
points for painting were awarded, I opted to play with my 'newly acquired' Orcs
& Goblins army under the leadership of Wozz'Up Bigmouth. At the left you can
find a link to the army list for Wozz'Up Bigmouth's Whaagh!...
1st Battle: 'ummies in ol' iron dress'z
|
Date:
18/01/2007.
Opponent:
Raf De Backer.
Army:
Bretonnia.
About
the opponent: Raf is an experienced Warhammer
player. No doubt there. He carefully thinks of all possible scenario's
before he makes his moves. In fact it's very interesting because he thinks
up loud, so you might get an idea or two extra of your own move. A fine
opponent nevertheless…
and exceptionally lucky with his dice.
About
the battle: I could hold of the charge for two rounds by manoeuvring my
troops wisely. As I wanted to get my charges in using Whaaagh I didn't get
enough extra movement to reach my opponent. As a result Raf got his charges
in and needless to say that he beat the hell out of me... Only the Savage
Orc Boar Boyz were able to score some points but only after the damsel in
the unit had found a refuge. I lost with a massacre...

2nd Battle: Stuntiez? Me hatez them... and them
hatez me... Grrrrrr!
|
Date:
1/02/2007.
Opponent:
David Hillewaert.
Army:
Dwarfs.
About
the opponent: David is not a Dwarf player, he is a Dwarf. Meaning that he is
a jolly chap that really knows to have fun while having a game. We had a
blast while our armies were bashing it out. There is one thing about David:
his dice
rolls are either good or bad, there is nothing in between. If I were you,
I'd paint my Dwarfs in a black and white livery...
About
the battle: Well, at an early stage David started targeting my Black Orcs,
the Savage Boar Boyz and the two units of Night Goblins. He then used a rune of challenge to lure my Boar Boyz into battle with his Thane
and Hammerers but they couldn't make the charge... In return the Savage Orc
Boar Boyz charged the Hammerers while the other Boar Boyz charged a unit of
Warriors. The Savage Boss was able to kill the Gate Keeper in a challenge
but his companions fell to the first striking Thane. The other Boar Boyz had
softened the Warriors enough and a round later they broke. This gave a unit
of Night Goblins the chance of charging them in turn 4 while the Boar
Boyz rallied. The 'Nighties' broke and ran down the Warriors with the Rune
Smith and ended next to a Bolt Thrower which could not shoot next turn due
to too many loss of crew. In turn 5 I didn't charge in the Boar Boyz again
but only turned the Night Goblins to face the Bolt Thrower and behind that:
the Flank of the Hammerers. A seriously reduced unit of Black Orcs killed of
some Quarellers and overran to get cover from any further shooting. In turn
6 I charged in the Boar Boyz on the Hammerers while the Night Goblins
charged the Bolt Thrower. The single crew man was killed and the Night
Goblins were able overrun into the flank of the Hammerers. The Champion of
the Boar Boyz issued a challenge which he had to accept with his Thane (no
more Gate Keeper remember!) and was slain. The other Boar Boyz did
their job while the Night Goblins just brought their numbers because of
their missed nets. The Stubborn Dwarfs held. In David's last turn he failed
a charge in the flank of the Boar Boyz with his second unit of Warriors. Me
saving 2 out of the 3 attacks of the Thane (-1 strength because of correctly
tossed nets this time) on my Boar Boss won me the battle and forced a test
on the Stubborn Hammerers... which they failed. The Night Goblins pursued
them and won me the match. Solid Victory!

and killed a unit of Warriors (205 pts), a unit of Hammerers (327 pts),
a bolt thrower (50 pts), a Rune Smith (±110 pts) and a Thane-General
(147 pts + 100 pts). Talking about refunding their value...

3rd Battle: 'ummies wif 'eavy black powter gunz
|
Date:
15/02/2007.
Opponent:
Bram De Zutter.
Army:
Empire.
About
the opponent: I still remember when I met Bram the first time. It was in Tip
Top several years ago where he was giving a course on painting. If only I
had then attended... We crossed paths several times on tournaments and in
fact I used him as contact person when I wanted to join the Green Knights.
Bram is real tactician which probably explains his choice for an Empire
army. A real nice guy whom I really enjoy playing.
About
the battle: Bram had deployed his cavalry to threaten my right flank whereas
the infantry took the centre. I opposed his knights with my Savage Orcs
bringing along their little surprise and both units Wolf Riders. In the
centre I used the usual deployment of two units Night Goblins flanking the
Black Orcs. In my first round I charged the frenzy Boar Boyz into a unit of
Knights and a unit Wolf Riders into the Pistoliers who failed to hit
anything with their stand-and-shoot. In close combat I only knocked of one
knight with 13 strength 5 and 8 strength 8 attacks. I still won the battle
but the knights stood firm and I got a flank charge of the other knights.
The Pistoliers beat the charging wolf riders and pursued them of the table.
There went my plan... I had still one little trick up my sleeve and used the
Pipes of Doom to cause panic on the 2 units of knights and the Pistoliers.
Both units knights only just scored an 8 on their panic test and Bram had to
wipe some sweat of his head. Damn! Bram succeeded in repeatingly casting his
Wall of Fire which slowed down my advance with the Black Orcs. I knew the
Sword of Fate was in play (I've been observant for my opponents) but if I
succeeded in getting my general into close combat it would be almost
impossible for Bram to use it on him. Due to the Wall of Fire they never got
away. Bram's Helblaster shot my Boar Boyz into little pieces of green flesh
over two rounds while on the other side the knights managed to keep out of
range of my two fanatics... When they finally charged in on my Nights
Goblins and my Black Orcs the battle was lost for me. The Spiteful Shield
made a hit on the captain but failed to wound and the Ward Save that I got
with the Amulet of Protectyness only saved one of the two wounds... Books
closed although the knights with Captain had to test for panic once more.
They succeeded... I suffered a serious massacre but had a fun game... Also I
got some insight on how better to use my list because I am way too careful
with my combat monsters: the Black Orcs.

Opponent:
Dave D Crop.
Army:
Empire.
About
the opponent: A second encounter with Dave in a little bit more than a
month. He's a really nice player to play against. The battles advance good,
are not boring or annoying and we both had a good time again playing. At
least: that's my opinion but I think Dave shares this...
About
the battle: Facing 2 great canons and a hellblaster is never fun to do
and as Dave had the first turn things didn't get any better. That would have
him two rounds of shooting before my fast cavalry could get rid of the guns.
Luckily one of his great canons blew up in the first turn but that still
wasn't nearly enough to stop him from blasting me to oblivion. My Savage Orc
Boar Boyz had a charge on his large unit of knights killing two of them but
lost too many themselves. In total they had to test two turns on a 4+ not to
break combat, something they did nicely. Eventually they were killed to the
man. A round later the knights fled for a flank charge of Night Goblins and
failed to rally in a subsequent turn, sending them of the table. Another unit
of Night Goblins was able to kill a unit of huntsmen, a detachment of free
company and a helblaster to see it finally be stopped by a unit of
Swordsmen. At the other side of the table the Black Orcs and Boar Boyz were
shot away. Only my general escaped the bloodbath and in the end
took a bloody revenge on a unit of pistoliers killing 4 of them and
reclaiming a banner. Nevertheless I lost with a solid victory after a very close game... Too bad my Black Orcs
had failed two panic tests, it could have made all the difference.

7th Battle: Bush Sissiez wif leavez on them...
|
Date:
21/06/2007.
Opponent:
Laurens Degryse.
Army:
Wood Elves.
About
the opponent: Laurens is a fine opponent. Just like me he doesn't bother
about that one or two milimeter, wants the game to run smoothly and have fun
while playing.
About
the battle: A gun-line of archers was awaiting me. Luckily for me I was able
to get most of it saved the first two rounds and surprise his general with
the Whaagh Banner of the Savage Boar Boyz. His wild riders were too busy
avoiding the fanatic releasing Night Goblins so the Savages were able to
take down a unit of archers also. The Black Orcs were able to 'Whaagh!'
themselves close enough to the Way Watchers to be able to charge and destroy
them. As they overran they were charged by Dryads and Wardancers. They held
their own for one round (Break test on a 3+) but didn't hold long enough for
the Boar Boyz to rescue them. After that all started to go wrong with the
Dryads killing the Boar Boyz, the Wardancers anihilating the Night Goblins
with Shaman, the Wild Riders getting rid of the Savage Boar Boyz and the
archers shooting up the remaining Night Goblins. It was a nice game however
although I lost with a massacre.
