Prequel:
For the second year
Tip Top and the Knights of Bayard organize a Ladder Competition. The simple goal
is to get to the top and stay there until the end. You can only challenge a
person that is at most three places above you but then you will have to play for
at least 2000 points. For each place less the army's minimum size is 500 points
less. I have decided to play all games with High Elves. This year I'm drawn at
the 8th place of 9. But I've got the time to get to the top...

Place
on the ladder:
8th.
My
army:
Chariots of Sigmar
(Empire)
Opponent:
Pieter Matthijs (placed 6th on the ladder)
Army:
Orcs & Goblins.
About
the opponent: Pieter is the
player you just love to play. The game advances at a nice rate but the
laughs you have with his remarks would make it even bearable if you were
butchered by him to the last man...
About
the battle:
Pieter
asked me to play my possible Empire tournament list so he could test his.
And so I did... Because I don't want to reveal too much just yet about my
list I can say that he captured my general, a unit pistoliers (no secret
there), 15 Flagellants and a great canon that blew up itself in the first
round. All he had left was a small unit of common goblins. A massacre for me
with a list that hasn't lost a game of 5 plus an advance of 2 places...

Place

6th.
My
army:
Deep Strike (High Elves)
Opponent:
Joris Claerhout (placed 4th on the Ladder)
Army:
Skaven.
About
the opponent: Joris is a player I always have trouble while playing with my
Empire. He always has a surprise for me in his army composition and that
what makes playing unpredictable...
About
the battle: My high manoeuvrability made a big difference although I must
say that Joris didn't have any luck with the dice. My two level 2 mages
really gave him a hard time while also shooting was a real pain for his
plague monks. Those were the only I didn't want to get in battle with. His
general fell at an early stage after a miscalculation of him shooting a
dragon prince to meet his maker. This resulted in the Dragon Princes with
battle standard bearer charging his general's unit in the flank. An insane
courage-test was the conseqeunce. In fact Joris didn't have much luck except
with his Warp Lightning Canon which made his points worth while before
exploding. An example of bad luck: I charged my First Silver Helms with War
Banner into 4 Rat Ogres. I managed to kill one of the foul monsters. Out of
the 9 attacks in return only one hit but didn't result in a wound as Joris
rolled a 1. The ogres were overrun...

Standard Bearer for destroying the general and his unit.
-
Combination of march blocking
Silver Helms, mages and shooting for getting rid of the large unit
plague monks.
-

Place
on the ladder:
4th.
My
army:
The Dark Elves Crusade (Empire)
Opponent:
Tom Verdickt. (placed 1st on the ladder)
Army:
Dark Elves.
About
the opponent: I just love playing Tom. He knows what he's doing, doesn't
forget to have fun and actually brings out the best in you. You can't afford
a mistake (something I did) for he knows his army far to well to not take
opportunity of it.
About
the battle: All seemed to go well and I was scoring heavy casualties on my
opponent from turn one. A mortar and a Helstorm Rocket Battery are simply
too good not to take against a player that loves bulk infantry. Whereas my
left flank was easily taken under control (Tom missing more than 70% of his
stupidity tests) my right flank was kept busy. Something I would regret
later in the battle. One g uy
really disappointed me today and that was my Archlector for he didn't seem
to succeed in killing the Cold One Knights with his one strength 10 hit.
Actually, he didn't even succeed in hitting him. Me winning on the left and
Tom on the right eventually resulted in a draw (in Tom's favour) so I'm
stuck on fourth place.
