Note of the Chosen of Sigmar:

This story was written for a tournament I attended with a 1500 pts army list on 20th of September 2003. It was my first tournament where I met adversaries that weren't of the same club as I am (so no Money Wolves or Knights of Bayard).

Too many times Buchholz[1] had been raided by the dark forces of Chaos. Daemons and Beastmen regularly terrorized the town. The Burgmeister of the town therefore sent a messenger to the court of Karl Franz. Since it concerned Forces of Chaos, Karl Franz decided to give the matter in the hands of the Grand Theogonist, leader of the Sigmarite Cult. The Theogonist ordered 3 of the most renowned Warrior Priests to gather a small host and clear the forests of Buchholz.

First of all there was Orval, the Hermit. This Warrior Priest used to be the Champion of the Court of Talabheim, until he chose to join the Temple of Sigmar. He had won many duels and ‘til this day hasn’t been beaten yet. Some whisper he had joined the Temple to avoid being beaten by Ludwig Schwarzhelm, Karl Franz’ champion, in duel. Others say he has joined the Temple after his family had been murdered by Skaven. None of these tales however have been proven. He still lives in a cave near the great tunnel of Talabheim and as a favor of his former apprentice, the young Count of Talabheim, had been given the lead over a part of the personal body guard of the Count, the Greatswords, and a unit of Spearmen. Orval was the first to arrive in Buchholz and found time to train several resilient men of the town into a detachment of his spearmen.

Next there was Abbot Tripple De Leffe, leader of a Sigmar Convent near Nuln. He was an imposing man, known for his severe look that could even make the most confident warrior doubt himself. As support he brought a small regiment of Pistoleers, 2 detachments of handgunners and a great canon with crew from the reserve troops of Nuln. Tripple took the lead of the defenses of Buchholz when he arrived.

They had been organizing these for just two days when a huge war band of Beastmen struck the town. Leading their troops the 2 Warrior Priests held off wave after wave, loosing several men themselves. The Beastmen horde was about to overrun the last defenders when suddenly a company of knights charged them in the back. At the front rode Friar Chimay.

This was the third Warrior Priest ordered by the Grand Theogonist and he was leading a company of the Empires Finest: The Reiksguard. Friar Chimay had been a Reiksgaurd Knight himself until he had fought at the side of Luthor Huss against a Vampire Count and his followers. Huss had saved him that day from death. Chimay was so overwhelmed by the aura of the Chosen of Sigmar, that he joined the order of Sigmar. After being nominated warrior priest he joined the Reiksguard on all their expeditions versus the foul enemies of the Empire. After receiving the message of the Theogonist he was granted permission of the Reiksmarshall to take a company of the Reiksguard Inner Circle to reinforce the troops that were going to clear Buchholz of the Chaos Raids.

They had ridden 2 days and nights only to arrive just in time to make a decisive rear charge that send the Beastmen running. The troops of the ‘Inquisition’ continued their efforts to destroy all Chaos influences by clearing the forests of Buchholz of all Beastmen and Daemons they could find. Being a critical point on the way from the Chaos Wastes towards the inner land of the Empire, Karl Franz demanded that all troops that were sent to Buchholz would remain there. The 3 Warrior Priests build with the help of the inhabitants a chapel at the edge of the forests. Yearly this chapel is visited by numerous followers of Sigmar to celebrate the liberation of Buchholz.[2]

[1] Buchholz: Germanized form of Buggenhout, the town where I really live. It’s known for its forest and chapel.
[2] This is a reference to ‘de Bosbegankenis’ that yearly is organized at the Chapel in Buggenhout
